How to Maintain Your Chain Hoist
Any machine or equipment that you use in your day to day life needs a regular and periodic maintenance for its successful operation. The same fact hold true for Chain Hoist too, if it is well kept then it is a must that it shall give you great results year by year. This is the key to get great results of operation from your mechanical giant. Each and every company that uses it has to have a well-planned strategy for this to increase the life. They are generally durable and long lasting. The only requirement is regular maintenance along with inspection, cleaning and lubricating. The chains which are the most important components should be kept clean and rust free. There are only a few bearing points that require oiling but these often require dismantling the hoist. Depending upon the use this should be done once in a year or two. Since these devices have gears it is important to keep them sand, grit and dirt free. To clean the gears dismantling is needed. After that they should be greased with a tacky high pressure lube.
The hoists that slip should be tagged "out of order" and repaired if possible. If not they should be scrapped. Chains that are worn, kinked or stretched should be replaced. Load chains have gently curved sides that when overloaded become straight and sometimes stiff to flex. Stretched, straightened chains should be scraped and replaced. Load chains on hoists that have been stretched will not run smoothly on their blocks. Snapping or popping chains are an indication of overloaded chains. The above applicable in both small and large companies are applicable. There is a large amount of imported junk in the market sold by the big discount tool houses. Many of these items have ZERO safety factors and are based on ultimate failure values rather than conservative engineering values. This means they break or fail without warning if overloaded. It is very important to keep in mind that t should never be overloaded as once it is done so there are chances of mishap. The mishap can also lead to loss of life. There a few steps those have to be kept in mind for the maintenance of the chain hoist. But if they are ignored then it shall create a lot of problems. So just keep in mind that maintenance is better than loss. Go for proper maintenance for your chain hoist.
